Position Title: Project Safety Specialist

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

 The Project Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and assisting operational personnel in the implementation of the Safety Program. The PSS is a technical resource that is responsible for performing in-depth Loss Source Analyses (LSA’s), assist in the development of interventions aimed at reducing losses, provide necessary safety training and education to all affected employees, and perform job site audits. This is a hire for project-based position. Candidate would be required to travel to the project.

REPORTS TO:
Regional Senior Safety Manager, Pipeline
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree or diploma/certificate from recognized safety program. Experience in a safety management setting above the minimum experience requirement may also be evaluated for substitution for the educational requirement. Any of OSHA 510/500, CSP, CSHO, CHST preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of five years of experience in a safety position. Experience should include knowledge of safety management concepts and principles, Federal regulations specific to the construction industry i.e. OSHA standards & DOT requirements, and experience applying this information in the Industrial or Pipeline (preferred)field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to read, comprehend, and effectively process heavy volume of complex written material; analyze situations, establish priorities and handle multiple tasks; develop action plans and coordinate activities in a timely and efficient manner; and exercise good judgment and reasoning skills necessary to effectively manage safety. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are also required.

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:

Works independently on a daily basis, exercising independent judgment to solve problems and make decisions within the parameters of Region and Corporate policies and guidelines.

CONTACTS AND RELATIONSHIPS:

Requires extensive regular contact of a responsible nature, in person and by telephone and correspondence, with all levels of Henkels & McCoy employees at both the Region and Project level, with external individuals and companies such as government agencies, customer representatives, insurance carriers, etc.

MATERIAL/EQUIPMENT USED:

Computer; telephone; photocopy machine; fax machine; other related office equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

Must be able to maneuver in and around work locations that may contain dirt, mud, uneven terrain, weather-related issues such as ice; overnight travel to offices and jobsites within operating region; extensive driving.

Job Tasks:

1. Provide assistance and technical expertise in implementation of all areas of safety program.

2. Provide training and education of project personnel in safety philosophies and safe work practices.

3. Lead coordination of Activity Hazard Analyses, MVP Critical Work Activities, and Safety Action Plans based on Loss Source Analyses.

4. Perform daily jobsite crew visits, documenting safe and unsafe work practices. Visits may also be conducted with a management representative that is responsible for 3-5 crews i.e. General Foreman.

5. Track and verify that corrective actions are completed in a timely manner for hazards identified.

6. Review all incident reports to ensure corrective actions are completed. Active involvement in investigating all OSHA recordables and High Loss Potential incidents.

7. Continual personal development in job skills and technical knowledge (Individual Development Plan).

8. Assist in any other functions required by Regional management
